Paperless Post and PJ's Graduation

Let's clear things up first: I loooooove snail mail. But I’m also extraordinarily bad at 1) buying international stamps 2) going to the post office and, most importantly 3) writing. I have the handwriting of a 7-year-old. It’s so chicken-scratchy that my manager once gasped with a slight chuckle the first time she saw my handwriting in person. I also tend to feel pretty guilty when I consider the environmental costs of sending a tiny piece of cardboard across the ocean to my friends.

So, needless to say, I was thrilled when Paperless Post reached out to me to try their service. Though I’ve dabbled with Paperless Post before, I had only ever used the free option for flyers and received a few Save the Dates from friends. But, spoiler alert, I can fully see myself using it for any invites I might need to send out when the time is right. Reducing my carbon footprint and sending beautiful mail is a combination I can easily get behind.

The stationary lover in me was thrilled. So. Many. OPTIONS to choose from, and zero necessary reasons to leave the comfort of my living room (or my dog) and head into the January cold to send out cards for the new year. We just for our second snow of the season so I'm especially feeling this way today.

It also happened to be the time when we were preparing for PJ’s graduation ceremony from KCL, and while he’s actually the person I’m most likely to buy a real, paper card for, he’s the least likely to keep them on display for more than two days.

Luckily we have plenty of digital memories to keep - his graduation was great.

So - on I went to Paperless Post. The process is easy, but I’m pretty indecisive so this was a very nice, soft lesson in making choices.

First, you choose exactly what type of mail you want to send out - they have flyers, save the dates, greeting cards, invitations - anything you could want, for any reason. I chose to go for the obvious (this time) and scoured the graduation greeting card options before ultimately settling on one from the congratulations section.

We received tickets to The Lion King in the West End for Christmas during this little London excursion, so I was more than excited to find this appropriately themed card. Then came the backdrop, envelope liner, and response card options - you’ll forgive me for now showing off my personal message to my favourite graduate. Some sentimental secrets need to be kept!

Of course, I wanted to send it immediately so I could see his reaction to my handiwork but thought he may like the surprise of receiving it as he prepares to cross the stage even more than I’d like to see him get it, so I was extremely happy to discover the scheduling feature. A girlfriend’s gotta do what she’s gotta do sometimes, you know? And I was right - he adored it and I was so happy to get to congratulate him in multiple ways throughout the day!

Now to make a list of all the birthdays coming up in the next few months so I can brighten up the inboxes of all my friends.

Uncommon Goods - Larry & the Lightbox

suz and the sun home, uncommon goods, cinema lightbox, good day sunshine

A happy September to you all!

A clean home is a happy home, but a mish mash of dog fuzz and travel trinkets make up the majority of our home decor.

Sometimes I like to look at our shelves through the eyes of other people and wonder what they think of us…better not to dwell on those thoughts!

It was much to my excitement when the folks over at UncommonGoods in Brooklyn let me know they think what we’ve got going on is pretty eclectic. SO -  imagine just how high my energy was when they asked me to check out some products from their home decor offerings.

*Cue screams of glee*

Moi?

UncommonGoods for me is one of those companies whose products I pin on any and every inspo board without hesitation. They are everything. And they have a commitment to meet certain standards regarding environmental impacts to boot; the sustainability side of me turns all heart-eyes emoji knowing this.

Along with being everything, they also have everything. Honestly, just click and don't look back. Don’t say I didn’t warn you when your wallet is empty (but your apartment full and full). Sorry and you’re welcome in advance.

Obviously though, knowing what you now know about us, we tried to combine a little practicality with a lot of fun. And extra Hobson attention…

So. Onto it.

I have wanted one of these forEVER and was so so so excited to pull this cinema-style lightbox out and play with it. We’re constantly looking for more lighting options in our living room, especially as these Belgian nights start to get darker. My goal is to try and go for a lyric-themed lightbox, and I’m going to keep this Beatles track running as long as possible - unless it’s PJ’s turn, he’s awful at lyrics (at least I know he’s human and has flaws, right?).

We've seriously had so much fun that he's become just as obsessed with perusing all of the other pieces that our place needs,

And as you can tell, Hobson may be a little dog, but he's a big fan of getting his photo taken.

Speaking of little dogs…

In an effort to clean up our space, we’ve gotten rid of so much…stuff recently. Including our old doormat. But the world is dirty and that ish is necessary, especially after our late night walks with the tiny fuzz seen above. I knew, I just knew, that as soon as I saw Larry that we had to have him. Include the fact that we call Hobson ‘Little Llama” and how they're tail twins, and I was done for.

I mean. And these are the faces that that I say goodbye to every morning and that greet me when I get home at night.

I'm so, so pleased with these two pieces. As fun as they are, they're also really functional - though I did have to emphasize the light in lightbox when explaining to PJ why it needed to be in our place as soon as possible.

Obviously, I was right. And our apartment thanks me every evening.

You're welcome!

POTD: Target Deco Box

OK, late to the game as usual, but I love boxes. Especially glass boxes. Especially decorative glass boxes with delightfully cute messages.

How many do I have? None. How many do I need? Well...none EXCEPT THIS BEAUTY from the one and only Target!

Possibly one of the things I miss most about living in Richmond (and the US in general) is Target. That great big bullseye holds the key to my heart and can cheer my up just by setting inside, though I tried it on Black Friday once and am still traumatised.

Any friends coming over soon, consider this your hostess-gift hint. In return, I'll present you with Belgian beer and endless puppy cuddles.

Enjoy this beautiful Sunday!

Through the Looking Glass

Via
Have you ever seen a string of words so relatable that you stop and just let them sink into you for a few moments before continuing on with your day? I think my whole body stopped when I came across this gorgeous Etsy print by thewheatfield from one of my favourite books: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

I think I relate to this, not because I feel like that cool, independent girl that does whatever she wants. No, I think I feel more like I've never totally fit in to the places I'm in, or the groups I'm apart of. I've always felt a little different, and I'm only now figuring out that there's nothing wrong with that.

In fact, it can be very right.

Suz
